In 1931, the village of Øyfjell got a special museum as a testamentary gift from the brothers Tarjei and Olav O. Trovatn. It is made in in granite with a style that resembles American architecture from the last part of the 1800s.
The museum has a rich collection of tools, costumes, rosemåling, kitchen utensils and various curiosities. Here you can see Norway’s biggest beer bowl and a French liquor container that came to Lifjell in 1860 by hot air balloon!
The yard shows a farm as it was in the 1900s. In the barn, you can find an exhibit about the workhorse. The farmhouse “Mostøyl-stoga” is from 1860/90 and has an interior influenced by city fashion from that time.
The museum is open with guided tours in July and August
