This art gallery in Smørklepp (named Vinje Biletgalleri) show works from Henrik Sørensen and Harald Kihle. The gallery is one of two Sørensen galleries drawn by Bjart F. Mohr.
The painter Henrik Sørensen (1882-1962) was a leading figure for Norwegian artists. During his long period of working, he had a rhythm: he spent the autumn in Italy, the winter in his atelier in Oslo City Hall, the summer in Holmsbru and in Smørklepp in Vinje, where he painted landscape and people.
His son Sven Oluf Sørensen built two galleries for his father’s paintings, one in Holmsbu in 1973 and one in Smørklepp in 1991. They were both drawn by the architech Bjart Faye Mohre in a peculiar style with coarse granite with glass, well hidden in the forest.
In this hidden pearl of an art museum, there is a painting by Sørensen’s friend Harald Kihle (1905-1997, famous for his portrayal of landscape, rural life and horses.
The gallery is open with a guide in July and August.
